How to make Sevai Upma

  • Serves: 2 People

    Ingredients to make Sevai Upma :

  • Vermicelli /Sevai – 1 cup*
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Green Peas boiled – 3 tbsp
  • Tomato chopped – 1
  • Ginger chopped – 3/4 tsp
  • Salt – 1 tsp
  • Lemon juice – 1.5 tsp
  • Chili powder – 1/2 tspTurmeric powder – 3/4 tsp
  • For the Tadka :
  • Refined Oil – 1 .5 tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds /rai – 1 tsp
  • Urad daal/White Lentils – 1 tsp
  • Cashews/kaju broken – 1 tsp (optional)
  • Curry Leaves – 6
  • Chopped green chili – 2

    How to make Sevai Upma :

  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, urad daal/white lentil, cashews & saute on medium heat.
  • As soon as the mustard starts crackling, add chopped green chili & vermicelli immediately. Saute on low heat.
  • Add in the curry leaves, boiled peas and stir fry for a few seconds. Add salt, turmeric, chili powder, chopped tomatoes, ginger and mix.
  • Pour in a cup of water, cover with a lid and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes. Add the lemon juice & fresh coriander and mix gently.
  • Switch off the flame and cover the pan and let it rest for a few minutes, so it absorbs the flavors and the extra water (if any).
  • Open the lid and fluff gently with a fork. Serve hot.
