How to make Dal Fry

  • Serves: 2 People

    Ingredients to make Dal Fry :

  • 1 cup Chana Dal
  • Water as required
  • Onion finely chopped
  • Tomatoes chopped 2
  • 2 green Chilli finely chopped
  • 2 inches long Ginger
  • 5 pods of Garlic
  • 2 tbsp of Kasuri Methi
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Salt as per taste
  • Coriander leaves chopped for garnishing
  • For Tempering :
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri Chilli powder 1 tsp
  • 1/2tsp Asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp black Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Fennel Seed
  • 1 tbsp Cumin seeds
  • 2 dry red Chilli
  • Ghee 1 _2 tsp

    How to make Dal Fry :

  • Wash and soak dal in water for 30 -40 Mins
  • Pressure cook dal for 5-6 whistles with water, salt and turmeric powder
  • Wait to release the vapour.
  • Strain lentils ,reserve water
  • Heat oil in a non-stick pan
  • When it is hot, add grated ginger, garlic, green chillis to it
  • Saute for some time, add chopped onion, saute until onion is light brown
  • Add tomatoes and 1 tsp water
  • Cook until tomatoes are soft
  • Now add lentils
  • Mix well with the masala
  • Add reserved lentils water, salt and allow to boil.
  • When it reaches the desired consistency switch off gas
  • Temper with the given ingredients and pour over it.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and fried curry leaves
  • Serve hot with rice
