Ingredients to make Appam :
- 2 cups Rice washed
- 1 cup Parboiled/ boiled/ idli Rice
- 1/2 cup Poha/aval (parched Rice) or cooked Rice
- 1 cup Coconut (grated)
- 1/2 tsp Dry active Yeast
- 2 tbs Sugar
- 1 tsp Salt
- Oil as required
How to make Appam :
Soak rice and parboiled rice in water for 4-5 hours.
Drain and grind together with grated coconut, cooked rice or poha/aval, dry active yeast,sugar and salt.
Add some water and grind all ingredients for a smooth batter.
Pour the batter in a large bowl and keep aside for fermenting for 8-12 hours.
The next day the batter will increase in volume and rise.
Heat oil in a kadai or an appam pan.
Spread a spoonful of the batter. Cover the pan and let it cook till the base becomes light golden
Serve the appams hot or warm with vegetable stew or sweetened coconut milk.
