Ingredients for Milagu Pongal :

  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 cup moong dal
  • 6 curry leaves
  • 3 cup water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger

How to Cook Milagu Pongal :

  1. Heat a deep pan over medium flame and fry the rice and moong dal in it for 3-4 minutes. Now, take a pressure cooker and add the fried rice-dal mixture in it with 3 cups of water. Place the cooker over medium flame and cook it till you hear 5 whistles.
  2. Place a small pan over high flame and add ghee in it. When the ghee is hot enough, add black pepper, cumin seeds, cashews, curry leaves and ginger in it. Now, open the cooker’s lid and put this mixture in it. Stir well to mix everything nicely. Serve hot with sambar and coconut chutney!
