Ingredients for Masale Pohe :
- 3 Handfuls pressed rice
- 2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1/2 teaspoon powdered turmeric
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon asafoetida
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- 4 tablespoon refined oil
- 10 leaves curry leaves
- salt as required
- water as required
- 4 tablespoon grated coconut
- 4 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
- 2 onion
- 1 potato
- 10 gourd
How to Cook Masale Pohe :
- Wash poha or the pressed rice in water and keep aside for about 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile, cut potato, onion, brinjal and ivy gourd.
- Next, put a kadhai on medium flame and heat oil in it. Then, add mustard seeds, asafoetida (hing) along with curry leaves in the pan and let them temper for a few seconds. Afterwards, add the chopped onions in the pan and saute till translucent and then add all the other vegetables. Cover the pan with a lid and let the vegetables cook for about 5 minutes.
- Remove the lid after 5 minutes and add 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon garam masala (use goda masala, if available for an authentic poha recipe), 1/2 teaspoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon tamarind pulp or paste along with salt to both the vegetables and poha. Mix all the ingredients well and cover kadhai with a lid.
- After 5 minutes, remove the lid and add poha to the cooked vegetables, toss carefully. Cover the lid once again for about 5 minutes and then turn off the burner. Garnish with grated coconut and chopped coriander. Serve warm and enjoy!
