How to Cook Goan Chicken Xacuti (Shakuti)

Ingredients for Goan Chicken Xacuti (Shakuti) :

 

  1. 500 gm curry cut Chicken
  2. 1/8 tsp grated Nutmeg
  3. 3 tbsp chopped Coriander leaves
  4. 1 teaspoon Coconut pieces for garnish- optional
  5. 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric
  6. to taste Salt
  7. 1 tbsp Ghee/oil
  8. To Roast and grind
  9. 1/2 cup grated Coconut
  10. 1/2 teaspoon Sesame Seeds
  11. 1/2 inch Ginger
  12. 4-5 Garlic cloves
  13. 1 inch Cinnamon
  14. 2-3 green Cardamom seeds
  15. 1 black Cardamom
  16. 1/2 teaspoon Peppercorns
  17. 5-6 Cloves
  18. 4-5 dry kashmiri Chilli
  19. 1/4 teaspoon Fenugreek Seeds
  20. 1 teaspoon Poppy Seeds
  21. 1.5 teaspoon Coriander seeds
  22. 1 Onion sliced
  23. 2 tbsp Oil
  24. 3/4 teaspoon Saunf
  25. 1/2 teaspoon Jeera                                                                                 1 small strand Mace

How to Cook Goan Chicken Xacuti (Shakuti) :

  1. Marinate 500 chicken pieces with salt, 1/2 tsp turmeric, set aside for 30 mins
  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil, roast all the spices, 1/2 inch ginger piece, 4-5 garlic cloves
  3. Add 1 sliced onion, 1/2 cup grated fresh coconut, saute until golden brown
  4. Allow the masala to cool completely
  5. Add to a mixer jar, add a little water, blend into a smooth puree
  6. Heat 1 tbsp oil, add the marinated chicken, stir fry for 2-3 mins
  7. Add the ground masala paste, mix well
  8. Add salt to taste, bring to a boil, cover & cook on low heat until done
  9. Add 1/8 tsp grated nutmeg, 3 tbsp chopped coriander leaves, mix well and take off heat
  10. Serve hot with rice or pulao
